Spirituals are a group of songs, also referred to as Negro spirituals, or African-American spirituals. This is because they originated among enslaved Africans in the United States.
This is a one-off special programme from TBN UK, honouring October as Black History Month in the UK.

Lyrics: Calvary by The Spirituals

Calvary, Calvary,
Surely he died on Calvary

Surely he died on Calvary
Surely he died on Calvary
Surely he died on Calvary
Surely he died on Calvary

On a hill, far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
But I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross
Where my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And will exchange it some day for a crown

Messiah, messiah
Jesus my saviour
Messiah, messiah
Jesus my saviour

Messiah, Messiah
King of Heaven and Earth
[Alleluia]
