Lyrics: Looking Up by Matthew West

Daddy was a preacher
The man I wanted to be
No, he didn’t wear a cape and he couldn’t fly
But he was a hero to me
Even heroes are human
But there’s one thing I always knew
The whole time I was lookin’ up to him
He was lookin’ up to You, You, You, You

Now I’m somebody’s daddy
I got two beautiful girls
They look at me like they think I hung the moon
And I feel the weight of their world
And I don’t know how to lead them
So, lead my every move
‘Cause I know those eyes lookin’ up to me
That’s why I’m lookin’ up to You, You, You, You

I don’t wanna take a step unless You lead it
I don’t wanna speak a word unless You breathe it
God I’m lookin’ up, keep me lookin’ up
Lookin’ up to the light I know will guide me
And I pray every day You find me
Find me lookin’ up, always lookin’ up

I’ve been workin’ my whole life
To stand up on this stage
In front of a crowd under the bright lights
Yeah, but one thing has changed
I used to dream of the day it was my name
That everybody knew
Now I know that You led me here to leave ’em
Lookin’ up to You, You, You

I don’t wanna take a step unless You lead it
I don’t wanna speak a word unless You breathe it
God I’m lookin’ up, keep me lookin’ up
Lookin’ up to the light I know will guide me
And I pray every day You find me
Find me lookin’ up, always lookin’ up
To You

Can we look it up, yeah
Always lookin’ up
Lord, I’m lookin’ up to You
I’m lookin’ up to You

Dear Lord, when I’m tempted to look at the world around me for satisfaction only You can provide, keep me lookin’ up to You. When troubles surround me, and I’m tempted to fix my eyes on my circumstances, keep me lookin’ up to You. I’m tryin’ to lead my family, help me remember that starts by followin’. Lord, keep me lookin’ up to You. Always lookin’ up to You. Amen.
