The sisters were born in the Musanze District in the Northern Province of Rwanda.Vestine Ishimwe was born in February 2004, and her younger sister, Dorcas Kamikazi, followed two years later in June 2006. They grew up in a devout Christian household led by their parents, Elizabeth Uzamukunda and Nizeyimana Mazimpaka. From a very young age, prayer, worship, and Christian values were central to their daily lives.
Both sisters exhibited an exceptional talent for singing early on. Between 2010 and 2017, while still under the age of ten, they joined children’s choirs at their local ADEPR church, participating in Sunday School and later the Goshen Choir.Their voices stood out so clearly that church leaders soon moved them from the children’s groups to sing alongside adult congregants.Listeners frequently noted that the young girls possessed a spiritual depth and emotional maturity that went far beyond basic vocal technique.
In 2018, the sisters decided to pursue music outside the four walls of their local church.Operating with limited resources, they began recording acoustic gospel covers and sharing them online.Their renditions of songs like “Umutima” and “Hallelujah” quickly gained traction, revealing a vocal maturity that captivated early listeners.
By 2019, they started to manage their digital presence more strategically, ultimately launching their official YouTube channel in July 2020. That same year, their raw talent caught the attention of Murindahabi Irรฉnรฉe, a prominent journalist and media executive from M. Irene Entertainment (MIE).After hearing them sing, he offered the sisters professional management and production support, encouraging them to step out as independent recording artists.Signing with MIE gave them access to professional studios and proper media exposure, setting the stage for their national debut.
Vestine and Dorcas experienced their major breakthrough in 2020 with the release of their debut original single, “Nahawe Ijambo”, which translates to “I have been given the word”.The song became an instant national anthem of worship in Rwanda, propelling the sisters from local choir singers to nationwide gospel stars.Following this massive success, they released a string of enduring hits including “Papa”, “Adonai”, and “Simpagarara”, all of which focused on themes of prayer, perseverance, and trusting God.
On December 24, 2022, they officially launched their debut album, also titled “Nahawe Ijambo”, during a major concert at Camp Kigali. The launch was a significant milestone, proving that they could convert their massive online popularity into a ticketed, live audience.
The duo’s musical style is heavily defined by their intricate, sisterly harmonies.Their voices naturally complement each other, often alternating between testimony and response before merging into soaring, unified choruses.Rooted deeply in Rwandan choral culture and Kinyarwanda worship, their music carries a distinct sense of communal praise.
As their career progressed, they began incorporating Swahili into their lyrics. This strategic artistic shift allowed their music to cross borders effortlessly, making their message accessible to a much wider East African audience while maintaining the core emotional delivery that made them famous in Rwanda.
Their 2022 debut album, “Nahawe Ijambo”, remains a foundational project in modern Rwandan gospel. However, their catalog has expanded significantly since then. In March 2025, they released the Swahili worship anthem “Yebo (Nitawale)”.The song became a monumental success, reportedly reaching one million views on YouTube in just five days, setting a speed record for a female Rwandan gospel act.
Other highly successful singles in their discography include “Emmanuel” (2025), “Ihema” (2024), “Neema” (2024), and “Ibuye”.In 2026, they continued to dominate the charts with powerful releases such as “Itabaza”, “Kisima”, and “Ibihe”.
