About Tosin Bee

Adejumobi Oluwatosin Akinkunmi, professionally known as Tosin Bee, is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter and worship minister known for his energetic praise style and his fusion of contemporary gospel with Yoruba and other African musical traditions. He was born on May 24 in Ilorin, Kwara State, and is originally from Ogbomoso in Oyo State. His music incorporates elements of R&B, hip-hop, Fuji, traditional Yoruba chants and African percussion, giving his praise music a distinctive sound within Nigeria’s contemporary gospel scene.

Tosin Bee’s musical journey began long before he became a professional recording artist. He sang in church choirs from an early age and became increasingly involved in music during his university years, eventually serving as music director of his fellowship. His transition into professional music followed his move to Lagos after university, where he began developing the ministry and artistic identity that would make him known across Nigeria.

He is particularly known for songs and projects such as “Yes Sir,” “Yer Sir,” “You Are God,” “I Know,” “Soro Mi Dayo,” “Oba Iyanu,” Testimony, Praise Unlimited, Praise Affair and the Communion with Tosin Bee series. His work with the RCCG Mass Choir and his collaborations with artists including Mike Abdul, Sammie Okposo, Adeyinka Alaseyori, Lolu Gbenjo, Bidemi Olaoba and others have further established him as one of the notable praise ministers in Nigeria’s modern gospel music movement.

Early Life and Background

Tosin Bee was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, although his family is from Ogbomoso in Oyo State. Music was already present in his family background. He has spoken about his grandfather, who was a musician in Ogbomoso, and has credited him as part of the reason he believes the musical gift was passed down to him.

His earliest experiences with music were informal. While growing up in Ogbomoso, he and friends would sing around their neighbourhood for fun. His involvement gradually became more serious when he moved to Ilorin for further education and became involved in church music.

Although he had been encouraged several times to join a choir, he initially hesitated because he was shy about performing in front of people. Eventually, after conversations with a fellow Christian who encouraged him to use his gift constructively, he joined a church choir. That decision became an important early step in his musical development.

Education

Tosin Bee studied English Language at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. His education was not formally in music, and he has explained that his musical abilities developed largely through practice, church involvement and self-development.

While at university, he became deeply involved in the Redeemed Christian Fellowship. He joined the fellowship choir, later became a worship team leader and eventually served as its music director. The experience gave him opportunities to develop his leadership, songwriting and vocal abilities while ministering regularly to a student audience.

His university years therefore became an important bridge between his early interest in singing and his eventual professional career.

Beginning of His Music Career

Tosin Bee has traced his professional musical journey to 2003, when he became part of a three-man group called Da Roots alongside Rumide and Sam. The group performed across parts of western Nigeria and gave him early experience as a performing musician.

After completing his studies, he moved to Lagos in 2010 and began pursuing music more fully. The transition was not without difficulties. He has spoken about the challenge of leaving the familiar environment of Ilorin for Lagos, as well as financial difficulties and the challenge of finding an environment conducive to growth.

During this period, he also worked in public relations and advertising. His professional experience outside music provided another dimension to his career before gospel music became his primary focus. He has consistently described his move into gospel music as a calling rather than simply a career choice.

Career and Breakthrough

One of the important turning points in Tosin Bee’s career came through his association with the Redeemed Christian Church of God and its music ministry. His involvement with the RCCG Mass Choir gave him access to large audiences and helped establish his reputation as a dynamic praise minister.

He has identified the RCCG event known as Lagos Shift as a particularly important moment in his rise to wider recognition. His performance there helped expose his music to a much larger audience and contributed to his growing profile within Nigerian gospel music.

His debut album, Testimony, was released in 2016. The project marked an important stage in his transition from a performing gospel minister into a recording artist with a growing body of original material. Channels Television featured him around the release of the album, discussing his career, his challenges and his understanding of gospel music.

Musical Style and Influences

Tosin Bee’s music is strongly rooted in African praise traditions. He has described his style as a fusion of Tungba and Alujo, two forms of African percussive music associated particularly with Yoruba musical culture, and contemporary gospel.

Earlier in his career, he described his sound as incorporating R&B, hip-hop, Fuji, jazz and Ewi, the traditional Yoruba style of poetic chant. These influences have helped him develop a musical approach that is simultaneously contemporary and strongly connected to Nigerian indigenous musical traditions.

This combination is especially apparent in his praise recordings. Rather than relying exclusively on conventional contemporary gospel arrangements, he often uses rhythmic percussion, call-and-response patterns, Yoruba expressions and energetic vocal delivery. The result is music designed not simply to be heard but to encourage participation.

His songwriting is similarly ministry-focused. He has said that he views his singing gift as an instrument of worship and as part of what he calls the kingdom agenda of gospel propagation.

Notable Songs and Albums

Tosin Bee’s recorded catalog has expanded considerably since the release of Testimony. His early singles included “Yes Sir,” “Yer Sir,” “You Are God,” “It’s Happening” and “I Know,” the latter featuring Mike Abdul.

He later released songs such as “Soro Mi Dayo,” “Oba Iyanu,” “Free,” “Joy” and “Praise Party.” His 2021 Praise Unlimited project, recorded with BeezleNation, became an important part of his praise ministry and was followed by Praise Unlimited Volume 2 in 2023 and Praise Unlimited 3 in 2026.

Another major strand of his discography is the Praise Affair series. Beginning in 2022, the series brought Tosin Bee together with a variety of Nigerian gospel artists, including Adeyinka Alaseyori, Bidemi Olaoba, Dare Justified, Lolu Gbenjo and others. The series has continued into 2025 with multiple collaborative releases.

His Communion with Tosin Bee projects take a somewhat different approach, focusing more closely on worship and live ministry. Releases in the series have featured artists and ministers including Pastor Korede Adams, Gideon Mba, P. Daniel Olawande, Tosin Martins and Pastor Wols.

Collaborations and Ministry

Collaboration has become a defining feature of Tosin Bee’s career. His recorded work includes collaborations with several generations of Nigerian gospel artists, allowing him to move between praise, worship and contemporary gospel styles.

Among the artists he has worked with are Mike Abdul, Sammie Okposo, Adeyinka Alaseyori, Bidemi Olaoba, Dare Justified, Lolu Gbenjo, Dunsin Oyekan and others. His 2023 single “Blessed,” for example, featured the late Sammie Okposo, while his 2024 release “Soromidayo (Remix)” brought together Tosin Bee, Adeyinka Alaseyori and Toluwanisings.

He has also shared stages with major Nigerian gospel performers including Tim Godfrey, Frank Edwards, Tope Alabi, Eben and Onos. These experiences have allowed him to learn from established gospel musicians while developing a performance identity of his own.

Beyond recording, Tosin Bee has organized and participated in large praise gatherings. His Praise Unlimited Tour took his music ministry to several cities, and he has continued to build his career around live praise and worship as much as studio recordings.

Current Career and Influence

Tosin Bee remains active as a recording artist and gospel music minister. His recent catalog shows an increasing emphasis on praise projects and collaborations. In 2025, he released a series of Praise Affair projects alongside artists including Apekeola, BBO, Stevehills, Pelumi Deborah, Psalmos, Elijah Daniel Omo Majemu and Lilian Nneji. He also released “More Than Able,” “Adurotini” and the Praise Overflow EP.

His 2026 releases include Praise Unlimited 3, credited with BeezleNation, “Songs of Joy” and the Extravagant Praise Medley EP with Femi Flame. His continuing activity on streaming platforms has kept his music in circulation among a growing audience of Nigerian and international gospel listeners.

Tosin Bee’s contribution to Nigerian gospel music is particularly evident in his ability to bring indigenous African praise traditions into contemporary gospel. His music does not treat Yoruba rhythms and cultural expressions as secondary elements. Instead, they form part of the foundation of his sound. Through energetic performances, collaborative projects and an extensive catalog of praise music, he has helped demonstrate how traditional Nigerian musical language can remain relevant within the modern gospel industry.
