His music is recognized for combining contemporary African sounds with Christian themes, giving his songs a youthful and urban character.

Takit first entered the Nigerian music scene professionally in 2011 with the single “Ain’t Nobody”. He gained wider attention following the release of his debut EP, Wildfire, in 2016. Since then, he has developed a reputation for versatility, moving comfortably between rap, Afro-fusion, worship and contemporary gospel. Early Life and Background

Greatman Takit was born in Surulere, Lagos State, but his family is originally from Kwara State. He grew up primarily in Abuja alongside his parents and three brothers. His father is a pastor and his mother served as a church minister, giving him a strong Christian foundation from childhood.

Interestingly, Takit’s early musical influences were not limited to church music. Growing up during the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was exposed to the popular music of the period, including hip-hop and R&B. He has spoken about listening to radio music and being introduced to the work of artists such as Tupac Shakur by his uncle.

He discovered his own singing ability while in junior secondary school. His interest developed quickly, and he became involved in school music and drama activities. At different points, he served as a director of both the junior and senior school choirs, experiences that helped him develop his confidence as a performer.

Education

Takit attended Government Science Secondary School in Pyakasa, Abuja, where his interest in music continued to grow. He later attended the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in Niger State.

His university years coincided with the early development of his professional music career. Rather than treating music simply as a hobby, he began pursuing it seriously while continuing his education. The combination of his Christian upbringing and exposure to secular African and international music helped shape the hybrid sound that later became central to his artistry.

How His Music Career Started

Greatman Takit officially began his recording career in 2011 with “Ain’t Nobody”. The release marked the beginning of a career that would gradually move between contemporary gospel, Afrobeat, hip-hop and worship.

He followed it with “IJO” in 2013 and “Farewemi” in 2014. These early releases helped him establish his identity as an artist capable of bringing urban musical influences into a Christian context.

His first major project, Wildfire, arrived in 2016. The nine-track EP featured songs including “Jungle Up Here” and “Run”, and demonstrated the lyrical and musical versatility that would remain characteristic of his work.

The Wildfire era was an important stage in Takit’s development because it showed that his approach to gospel music did not have to follow a strictly conventional formula. He was comfortable incorporating rap, contemporary African rhythms and personal storytelling into music centered on Christian faith.

Career and Breakthrough

Following Wildfire, Takit continued releasing singles and collaborating with other gospel artists. He became a member of The Gratitude, the music group associated with the House On The Rock church, where he contributed to the collective’s contemporary gospel sound. He eventually left the group in 2020 to concentrate on his independent career.

In 2019, he released “Sound of Rain”, followed by the Energy (Afropop Gospel Vol. 1) EP in 2021. The seven-track project further established the direction suggested by his earlier work, combining gospel themes with Afro-pop and urban influences.

One of the defining features of Takit’s career has been his ability to move between different sides of gospel music. He can deliver energetic Afro-gospel tracks and rap performances while also participating in worship projects. This versatility has made him a frequent collaborator within Nigeria’s rapidly developing contemporary gospel scene.

Musical Style and Influences

Greatman Takit’s music is built around the meeting point of African popular music and Christian expression. His sound incorporates Afrobeats, hip-hop, R&B, Afro-fusion and contemporary worship, while his lyrics explore subjects such as faith, God’s love, gratitude, personal growth and Christian identity.

His early exposure to hip-hop and R&B remains noticeable in his rhythmic delivery and use of rap. At the same time, his Christian upbringing gives his songwriting a clear spiritual foundation. This combination allows him to write songs that feel culturally familiar to young African listeners without losing their gospel identity.

Takit’s Worship SZN project showed another dimension of his artistry. Released in 2024, the project moved more directly into worship and devotional music, featuring songs such as “Chant”, “Holy Spirit”, “In Your Arms”, “Laughter”, “Look What You’ve Done”, “Amen Amen” and “Yahweh”.

His music therefore does not fit neatly into one category. He can move from rap-driven Afrogospel to intimate worship while maintaining a recognizable vocal and lyrical identity.

Notable Songs and Collaborations

Among Greatman Takit’s most recognized songs are “Ain’t Nobody”, “Commando”, “Sound of Rain”, “Look What You’ve Done”, “We Prevail”, “Correct”, “Daddy Wey Dey Pamper”, “Holy Spirit”, “Eternal” and “No Lele”.

His 2022 single “Look What You’ve Done” became an important part of his catalogue, while his collaboration with Ko’rale on “Commando” demonstrated his ability to work within the more energetic side of Afrogospel.

Takit gained another significant audience through his appearance on “Daddy Wey Dey Pamper”, the popular song by Moses Bliss. The remix featured Takit and Prinx Emmanuel and became one of the prominent contemporary Nigerian gospel collaborations of the period.

He has also worked with Limoblaze on “Bulie” and later “Eternal”, with Nathaniel Bassey on “You Are Good”, with Folabi Nuel on “A Thousand Miles”, and with Lawrence Oyor on “Jugular Jugular”. His collaborations reflect the broad range of artists with whom he is able to work, from worship leaders to Afrogospel and urban Christian artists.

Recent Work and Current Career

Takit has remained highly active in the 2020s, releasing both individual singles and larger projects. In 2024, he released Worship SZN and Ghetto Gospel, the latter created in collaboration with producer GospelOnDeBeatz. The projects highlighted two complementary sides of his artistry, with Worship SZN leaning toward worship and Ghetto Gospel emphasizing contemporary African gospel.

His catalogue expanded further in 2025 with releases including “Baba Saanu”, “No Lele”, “Eternal”, “Unlimited”, “Water” and “Time for Shift”, the latter featuring Godswill Oyor and Pastor Paul Enenche.

In 2026, Takit released Flames of a Wildfire, a 23-track project that revisits and expands the Wildfire identity that first introduced him to a wider audience. The album includes collaborations with artists such as Nathaniel Bassey, Anendlessocean, Lawrence Oyor, Ty Bello, Limoblaze, Prinx Emmanuel and Sherri Lewis. Songs on the project include “Supercool”, “Healing Hands”, “You Are Good”, “WYS”, “ADML”, “All the Praise”, “Heavenly Man”, “Mercy”, “No Lele”, “Baba Saanu”, “Eternal”, “Correct” and “Flames of a Wildfire”.

The project represents an important point in Takit’s career, bringing together the Afro-gospel, rap, worship and contemporary Christian influences that have defined his music from the beginning.

Influence and Legacy

Greatman Takit’s contribution to Nigerian gospel music lies largely in his willingness to approach Christian music through the language and sounds of contemporary African youth culture. He is part of a generation of artists who have helped make Afrogospel a distinct and increasingly visible musical space.

His career demonstrates that gospel music can incorporate rap, Afrobeats, R&B and other popular sounds without losing its spiritual foundation. At the same time, his movement into worship projects shows that his artistry is not restricted to one musical format.

From his early school choir experiences and 2011 debut to Wildfire, Energy, Worship SZN, Ghetto Gospel and Flames of a Wildfire, Takit’s career has been characterized by experimentation and growth. His continuing collaborations with major Nigerian gospel artists have further strengthened his position within the contemporary Christian music scene.
