Dax was born to Nigerian immigrant parents and grew up in Ottawa. Before music became his main career, basketball played a major role in his life. He attended Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas and later played college basketball at Casper College, the University of Montana and Newman University.
At Newman University, he played as a guard for the Newman Jets while studying communication. He also worked as a janitor during college. It was during this period that he developed his writing and performance skills more seriously, writing poetry and eventually turning his poems into rap lyrics.
His experiences in basketball, college and working a minimum-wage job later became recurring subjects in his music. Rather than presenting himself solely as a rapper, Dax often uses his songs to tell stories about ambition, disappointment, perseverance and the pressures of everyday life.
Dax began releasing music online around 2016, initially attracting attention through freestyles, remixes and short performance videos. His ability to deliver rapid verses and work creatively with existing instrumentals helped him build an audience on YouTube and social media.
In 2017, he gained wider recognition with โCash Me Outside,โ a collaboration with Danielle Bregoli, also known as Bhad Bhabie. The song became an important early milestone in his career and helped move him beyond the online freestyle community.
He continued releasing independent material while developing a reputation for highly personal lyrics and technically demanding delivery. Songs such as โJoker,โ โShe Cheated Again,โ โDear Godโ and โDear Alcoholโ demonstrated his willingness to address subjects ranging from relationships and emotional struggles to faith and addiction.
Dax’s first major studio album, Pain Paints Paintings, was released in 2021. The project brought together many of the themes that had already become central to his music, including pain, perseverance, personal growth and social commentary.
His career reached another significant stage with โDear Alcohol,โ released in 2022. The song, featuring Elle King, examines the complicated relationship between alcohol and emotional pain. It became one of his most successful recordings and eventually received gold certifications in both Canada and the United States.
In 2024, Dax released his second studio album, From a Man’s Perspective. The project continued his focus on personal experiences, masculinity, relationships, emotional struggles and the challenges of adulthood. His song โTo Be a Man,โ later released in a version featuring country singer Darius Rucker, became another widely recognised record from this period.
Faith has been a recurring subject throughout Dax’s music. One of his best-known faith-oriented songs is โDear God,โ in which he addresses God directly while questioning life, suffering, purpose and belief. The song became particularly notable for presenting religious questions through the language and structure of contemporary rap.
Dax has also released songs such as โGod’s Eyes,โ โDear Alcohol,โ and โGod, Can You Hear Me?โ that explore spirituality, personal struggle and the search for meaning. His music does not fit exclusively within Christian hip-hop, however. Dax has described himself as an artist rather than limiting his work to one particular rap category, and his catalogue includes secular, motivational and socially focused material alongside explicitly faith-based songs.
Dax is recognised for his technical rapping ability, rapid delivery, internal rhymes and frequent changes in flow. His songs can move between aggressive hip-hop performances, melodic passages and slower, conversational storytelling.
His songwriting is often direct and autobiographical. He regularly draws on experiences involving work, relationships, disappointment, ambition, faith and personal struggles. This combination of technical performance and emotional storytelling has become one of the defining characteristics of his music.
His catalogue also crosses genre boundaries. Alongside hip-hop, he has incorporated elements of country music, R&B and contemporary pop, particularly in collaborations and songs aimed at a broader audience.
Dax has remained active with a steady stream of singles following From a Man’s Perspective. His 2025 releases included โMan I Used to Be,โ โ10 Shotsโ and a remix of โLonely Dirt Road.โ In 2026, he released songs including โTemptation,โ โGod, Can You Hear Me?,โ โCaught You in the Bedโ and โBig Boys Don’t Cry.โ
His album Anger Management was released in August 2026 and contains 12 songs. The project continues his established interest in emotional pressure, personal conflict and the challenges surrounding modern life.
Dax’s career reflects the changing path available to independent artists in the digital era. He built his initial audience through online videos and freestyle performances before developing a mainstream recording career without abandoning the direct, personal approach that first attracted listeners.
