Born Davi Amorim de Oliveira in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, in 1975, he became widely known as a vocalist and songwriter with the worship groups Toque no Altar and Trazendo a Arca. His work during the 2000s helped establish songs such as “Deus de Promessas,” “Restitui,” “Tua Graça Me Basta,” “Olha pra Mim” and “Marca da Promessa” as enduring songs within Brazilian evangelical worship.
Sacer later built a successful solo career while continuing to work within the worship tradition that had defined his earlier years. Davi Sacer was born in Nova Iguaçu, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, on November 30, 1975. He grew up in a Christian family and became involved with music through the church. His interest developed at an early age after watching his older siblings play instruments and sing.
At eight years old, Sacer began singing publicly with the encouragement of his family. His older brother Moisés, who was involved in church music, recognized his ability and invited him to join a band whose other members were adults. The experience gave Sacer an early introduction to performing and helped establish music as an important part of his life.
At 17, he joined Jovens Com Uma Missão, known in Brazil as JOCUM, where he spent about two years. During this period, his early compositions began to receive recordings. He participated in the 1995 project Minha Porção, which marked one of the first documented stages of his development as a recording artist and songwriter.
After his time with JOCUM, Sacer worked with Christian musician Cláudio Claro and participated in his musical projects. These early experiences gave him further opportunities to develop as a vocalist, songwriter and musician before he became nationally recognized.
The major turning point in Sacer’s career came in 2003 when he became part of the music ministry associated with Ministério Apascentar de Nova Iguaçu, which became widely known as Toque no Altar. The group’s self-titled 2003 album introduced a worship sound that quickly gained attention within Brazil’s evangelical music scene.
Sacer served as one of the project’s principal vocalists and songwriters, working closely with musicians including Luiz Arcanjo and Ronald Fonseca. The partnership with Arcanjo became particularly significant, producing several songs that would remain associated with Sacer throughout his career.
The group’s early catalogue included songs such as “Restitui,” “Deus de Promessas,” “Tua Graça Me Basta,” “Olha pra Mim” and “O Chão Vai Tremer.” The 2005 album Deus de Promessas and the 2006 release Olha pra Mim further expanded the group’s reach, while Sacer’s distinctive voice became one of the defining elements of its recordings.
Following changes within the ministry in the mid-2000s, Sacer and other musicians continued their work under the name Trazendo a Arca. The new group maintained the worship-oriented musical direction associated with their previous work and released projects including Marca da Promessa and Salmos e Cânticos Espirituais.
Sacer remained one of the group’s leading vocalists and songwriters. In April 2010, he left Trazendo a Arca to concentrate on his solo career. A reunion with members of the classic lineup took place in 2020, resulting in the album O Encontro.
Sacer began his solo career in 2008 with Deus Não Falhará, while he was still associated with Trazendo a Arca. The album established the foundation for a solo catalogue that would continue to draw on his experience as a worship leader while allowing him to develop his own artistic identity.
He followed the project with Confio em Ti in 2010 and No Caminho do Milagre in 2011. The latter revisited some of the musical themes and songs that had become important during his years with Toque no Altar and Trazendo a Arca. He subsequently released Às Margens do Teu Rio in 2012 and Venha o Teu Reino in 2014.
His later albums included Meu Abrigo in 2015, DNA in 2017, 15 Anos in 2019 and Um Pedido in 2020. The 2019 project 15 Anos celebrated an important stage of his career by revisiting songs that had become associated with his ministry. The project included new recordings and collaborations with artists such as Simone Mendes, Preto no Branco and Ton Carfi.
In 2023, he released Especial 20 Anos, followed by Tu És Bom in 2024. These releases demonstrated his continued activity as a recording artist while maintaining the worship-centered approach that had characterized much of his career.
Sacer’s music is rooted in contemporary Christian worship, with songs that frequently focus on faith, God’s promises, restoration, surrender, hope and dependence on God. His vocal performances are generally characterized by an expressive delivery designed to work within congregational worship as well as recorded music.
His songwriting partnership with Luiz Arcanjo was especially important during the Toque no Altar and Trazendo a Arca years. Together, they were responsible for several of the songs most strongly associated with that period of Brazilian gospel music, including “Restitui,” “Tua Graça Me Basta,” “Olha pra Mim” and “Marca da Promessa.”
“Deus de Promessas” became one of Sacer’s signature songs. Written by Sacer alongside Ronald Fonseca and Verônica Sacer, the song became widely known through his performances and later received additional recordings. Its central theme of trusting God’s promises reflects one of the recurring ideas throughout Sacer’s catalogue.
Other notable songs associated with his career include “Restitui,” “Marca da Promessa,” “Tua Graça Me Basta,” “Olha pra Mim,” “Meu Abrigo,” “Confio em Ti,” “Venha o Teu Reino” and “Foi Deus.”
Sacer’s work has received recognition through some of Brazil’s major Christian music awards. During his years with Toque no Altar and Trazendo a Arca, he received multiple Troféu Talento nominations and won awards in categories including Best Composer and Best Male Performer.
His songwriting was particularly recognized. “Restitui,” “Deus de Promessas,” “Olha pra Mim” and “Marca da Promessa” each received Troféu Talento recognition in the Song of the Year category across consecutive years. Sacer also received three individual Troféu Talento wins for his work as a composer and performer.
He later received nominations at the Troféu Promessas during his solo career. His recognition has largely reflected his contribution to Brazilian Christian worship rather than a conventional mainstream pop career.
Davi Sacer is married to fellow Christian singer and songwriter Verônica Sacer. The two have worked together musically on several occasions, both during their years with worship groups and throughout Sacer’s solo career. They have two children, Breno and Maressa.
Verônica has also appeared alongside Sacer in performances and recordings, making their musical partnership an important part of his career. Their collaboration continued into his later work, including his 2026 project Salvo Pela Graça.
Sacer has also collaborated with a range of Brazilian Christian artists. His 15th-anniversary project included new versions of well-known songs with artists including Simone Mendes, Preto no Branco and Ton Carfi, giving older compositions new arrangements and introducing them to different audiences.
In April 2025, Sacer signed with Universal Music Christian Group, beginning a new chapter in his recording career. His first release with the company was “Maior Valor,” issued in November 2025. The song was recorded live at Igreja Batista Atitude in Rio de Janeiro and served as the introduction to a larger project.
That project became Salvo Pela Graça, released on March 13, 2026. The 11-track project was built around congregational worship and included songs such as “Maior Valor,” “Salvo Pela Graça,” “Anjos e Homens,” “Toma o Teu Lugar,” “Deus Não Vai Falhar,” “Extraordinário,” “Foi Deus,” “Se a Tua Voz Ouvir,” “Venha o Teu Reino” and “Celebre.” The title track was recorded live at Igreja Batista Atitude and features vocals from both Davi and Verônica Sacer.
Later in June 2026, Sacer released “Eu Não, Deus,” continuing his work with Universal Music Christian Group. The release followed the Salvo Pela Graça project and demonstrated that his recording career remains active more than two decades after his emergence with Toque no Altar.
Sacer’s legacy is closely connected to the rise of contemporary congregational worship in Brazil during the 2000s. His work with Toque no Altar and Trazendo a Arca helped establish a generation of songs that became familiar in evangelical churches, while his solo career allowed him to continue developing that musical tradition.
