Tenth Avenue North is an American contemporary Christian music band originally formed in West Palm Beach, Florida.Led by frontman and primary songwriter Mike Donehey, the band became a staple in the Christian pop-rock genre. They are known for their honest, introspective lyrics that explore themes of grace, redemption, and the struggles of the Christian journey, often paired with catchy acoustic-driven melodies.

While they officially disbanded in 2021 after a highly successful two-decade run, the group unexpectedly reunited in 2023 with a revamped lineup, continuing their legacy of creating authentic, spiritually uplifting music.

How Their Music Career Started

Tenth Avenue North was formed in 2000 by a group of college friends in West Palm Beach, Florida.The founding members—Mike Donehey, Jason Jamison, and Bryan Homan—began playing music together in dorm rooms and leading worship at local churches. They named the band after a major road in their college town where they frequently played. For years, they operated independently, releasing indie EPs like Don’t Look Back (2003) and Speaking of Silence (2005) while steadily building a loyal grassroots following through constant touring. Their persistent work ethic and undeniable talent eventually caught the attention of Reunion Records, a major Christian music label, leading to a record deal in 2007.

Career and Breakthrough

The band achieved massive mainstream success with their major-label debut album, Over and Underneath, released in 2008. The album featured the breakout single “Love Is Here,” which rapidly climbed the Billboard Christian charts.However, it was their follow-up single, “By Your Side,” that truly cemented their place in the industry.The song became a massive radio hit, holding the number one spot for weeks and eventually winning the GMA Dove Award for Song of the Year. This incredible debut success laid the foundation for a long and fruitful career as one of Christian music’s most reliable hitmakers.

Disbandment and Return

After twenty years of rigorous touring and recording, Tenth Avenue North announced in 2020 that they would be officially disbanding, playing their final shows in 2021. The members amicably parted ways to pursue different passions;Donehey launched a solo career and authored books, Jeff Owen moved into music production, and other members pursued business or ministry ventures.

However, to the surprise and delight of fans, the band announced a reunion in 2023. Mike Donehey returned as the frontman, joined by a new lineup of musicians, including Thomas Ewing, Monty Rivera, and Payden Hilliard.Emphasizing a renewed sense of purpose and joy in making music, the reformed band released their comeback album, Learning to Trust, in early 2025 and returned to touring.
