About Esther Oji

Esther Oji is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter and worship leader known for her powerful vocals, heartfelt worship songs and strong emphasis on intimacy with God. Born in Kano State and originally from Abia State, she began singing in church at a young age and developed her musical abilities through years of service in church choirs and worship teams. Her music is rooted in contemporary Nigerian gospel and worship, with songs that often focus on God’s character, gratitude, surrender and personal devotion.

Before becoming a recording artist, Oji spent years serving in church music ministry. She studied Mass Communication at Abia State University, where she also served as a music director in her school fellowship. In 2020, she joined the music team of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), where she became increasingly recognised as a worship leader. Her transition from church ministry to professional recording began to take shape when she was unveiled as an artist with EeZee Conceptz Global in September 2022.

Oji’s recording career has since produced albums including Sound of Heaven and Lifted, as well as songs such as “Dependable Jesus,” “Mighty Chorus,” “Idi Ebube,” “Highest Praise,” “Aka Ngozi,” “Baba Eh,” “Fragrance” and “Igbega.” Her music combines a technically strong vocal delivery with a worship-centred approach, helping her establish a place among the newer generation of Nigerian gospel ministers.

Early Life and Musical Background

Esther Oji’s relationship with music began during childhood. She started singing in her local church choir at about the age of ten and progressed through the children’s, teenage and adult choir. Her early experience in church gave her a foundation in both singing and worship leading, and she continued to serve in music ministry as she grew older.

Although she was born in Kano, her family has roots in southeastern Nigeria. Her father is from Abia State while her mother is from Edo State. The family lived in Kano for several years before relocating to Nasarawa State following unrest that affected their circumstances and livelihood.

Oji has spoken about these experiences as part of the story behind her music. Her upbringing and years of service in church helped shape her understanding of music as more than performance. For her, singing became closely connected to faith, service and personal devotion.

Education and Church Ministry

Oji studied Mass Communication at Abia State University, where her involvement in music continued alongside her academic work. She served as the music director of her school fellowship, gaining further experience in leading singers and musicians and organising worship.

Her university years were therefore an important stage in her development as a worship leader. Rather than beginning her career primarily through commercial entertainment, she spent much of her formative years serving within Christian fellowships and church music teams.

In 2020, she joined the music team of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly. Her work there further increased her visibility as a worship minister and gave her opportunities to minister before larger congregations. The experience also prepared her for the transition into professional recording.

Beginning of Her Recording Career

Oji’s professional recording career entered a major new phase in 2022 when she was unveiled as an artist under EeZee Conceptz Global, one of Nigeria’s prominent Christian music labels. The partnership gave her a professional platform from which to develop her music beyond her work as a church worship leader.

Her debut album under the label, Sound of Heaven, was released in 2022. The seven-track project introduced listeners to the central themes of her music, combining worship, praise and personal expressions of faith.

The album included “Mighty Chorus,” “Emmanuel,” “More Than Enough,” “Dependable Jesus,” “Worthy Jesus,” “Idi Ebube” and “Highest Praise.” These songs established her as a recording artist while retaining the worship-focused identity that had defined her earlier ministry.

Musical Style and Breakthrough

Oji’s music is firmly rooted in contemporary Christian worship, with a strong emphasis on vocals and devotional lyrics. Her songs often have a congregational quality, making them suitable for both personal worship and church settings.

Her vocal ability is one of the most noticeable features of her recordings. She is comfortable with powerful high-register passages but also uses a more restrained delivery when the song calls for intimacy. This versatility allows her to move between energetic praise and reflective worship without losing the central character of her sound.

“Aka Ngozi (The Hand of God)” became one of the songs that expanded her visibility after her debut. The song was accompanied by a music video featuring Ghanaian comedian Akrobeto and presented a joyful celebration of God’s goodness. “Baba Eh,” “Fragrance” and “Your Way,” featuring Minister GUC, further broadened her growing catalogue.

Notable Songs and Albums

Sound of Heaven established the foundation of Oji’s recording career, but her second album, Lifted, demonstrated considerable growth. Released in August 2024, the 11-track album was built around themes of faith, resilience, gratitude and God’s ability to raise people from difficult circumstances.

The album includes songs such as “Igbega,” “Daalu,” “Aka Ngozi,” “More Than Enough,” “King of My Heart,” “Do It Again” and “Follow Who Know Road.” “Igbega,” one of the project’s lead songs, is a worship expression centred on the greatness of God and became one of the project’s prominent releases.

Her catalogue also includes “Dependable Jesus,” “Idi Ebube,” “Highest Praise,” “Jesus,” “Fragrance” featuring GGTQ All Stars, “New Address,” “Jehovah Jireh” and “Chief Commander.” Across these songs, Oji has maintained a consistent focus on praise, worship and the Christian’s relationship with God.

Collaborations and Recognition

Collaboration has become an important part of Oji’s growing career. She has worked with Nigerian gospel artists including Minister GUC and has appeared on projects involving other worship collectives and ministers. Her collaboration with GGTQ All Stars on “Fragrance” is particularly notable for its emphasis on worship and intimacy with God.

She has also participated in live worship performances and church events, continuing the ministry-oriented approach that characterised her years before entering the recording industry.

Oji’s recognition has largely grown through her music ministry and increasing presence within Nigeria’s gospel scene. Her association with EeZee Conceptz Global has placed her alongside established Nigerian gospel artists and provided a wider platform for her work.

Recent Career and Influence

Oji has remained active as both a recording artist and worship minister following the release of Lifted. Her catalogue continued to expand with singles including “Language of Your Heart,” “New Address,” “Jehovah Jireh” and other worship recordings. In January 2026, she released A New Thing, a six-track EP that continued her exploration of contemporary worship.

Her recent work has also included collaborations and live recordings. In 2026, she appeared alongside Taiwo Oshin and Gabriel Eziashi on “I Lift You Up,” adding another dimension to her growing body of collaborative worship music.

Esther Oji’s influence comes from the combination of a strong church background, vocal ability and a clear understanding of worship as ministry. Her journey from singing in a children’s church choir to becoming a recording artist with one of Nigeria’s leading gospel labels reflects a career built gradually through years of service.
