About Diana Hamilton

Diana Antwi Hamilton, professionally known as Diana Hamilton, is a Ghanaian gospel singer, songwriter and worship leader whose music has become a significant part of contemporary African gospel. Born and raised in Ghana, she began singing at a young age and developed her musical ministry through church before building a professional career that has taken her across Africa, Europe and North America. Her music is known for its blend of contemporary gospel, African worship and Ghanaian musical traditions, with lyrics that focus on faith, gratitude, hope and God’s faithfulness.

Hamilton first became widely known as a backing vocalist for veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Francis Agyei, a role she held for about a decade. She later established herself as a solo artist with songs and albums including Osoro Bekasa, Blessings, Yehowah, I Believe and Grace. Her breakthrough in the mainstream Ghanaian gospel scene came particularly with “Adom”, a song that earned her several major honours in 2021, including Artiste of the Year and Gospel Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards.

Early Life and Musical Background

Diana Hamilton was born to the late Apostle Felix Antwi, a former executive member of The Church of Pentecost, and Comfort Antwi. She is the third of eight children. Her upbringing in a Christian household played an important role in shaping her relationship with music and ministry. According to her official biography, music ministry began for her at a very young age.

Her early musical experiences were closely connected to church. She developed her vocal abilities through Christian worship and gradually became known for her singing. Those early experiences gave her a strong foundation in the style of worship that would later define her career.

Although music eventually became her profession, Hamilton did not immediately enter the industry as a solo recording artist. She first spent years gaining experience behind established musicians, an experience that would prove important in preparing her for her own career.

Education and Career Beginnings

Hamilton completed her schooling in 2002 and later married in 2005. Around the same period, she was developing her professional identity as a musician. After returning from her honeymoon, her manager introduced her to a songwriter, leading to the recording of her first major solo project, Osoro Bekasa.

Before becoming a recognised solo artist, Hamilton spent approximately ten years as a backing vocalist for Francis Agyei. She has credited that period with helping her grow musically and professionally. Working with an established gospel musician gave her valuable experience in live performance, stage presentation and the practical demands of music ministry.

Her transition from backing vocalist to lead artist was therefore gradual. Rather than emerging overnight, Hamilton spent years developing her voice and learning the discipline required to sustain a career in gospel music.

Rise as a Gospel Artist

Hamilton’s solo career developed through a series of recordings that established her as one of Ghana’s notable female gospel singers. Her early album Osoro Bekasa was followed by projects including Blessings, released in 2011, Yehowah in 2015 and I Believe in 2018.

Her music gained a particularly strong following among Ghanaian gospel listeners because of its combination of contemporary production and familiar African worship traditions. She frequently incorporates Twi into her songs, allowing her music to remain closely connected to Ghanaian Christian culture while still appealing to international listeners.

Songs such as “Mo Ne Yo”, “W’asem”, “My Meditations” and “Adom” helped expand her audience. Her music also began reaching listeners outside Ghana, supported by performances and ministry engagements in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Israel.

Musical Style and Notable Songs

Diana Hamilton’s sound is firmly rooted in African gospel and worship. Her music combines contemporary gospel arrangements with Ghanaian rhythms, melodies and languages, particularly Twi. Her songwriting often centres on personal testimony and the recognition of God’s intervention in everyday life.

One of her best-known songs is “Adom”, which means “Grace”. Released during the period surrounding her Grace album, the song became a major success in Ghana and played a central role in her award-winning 2021 campaign. The song’s themes of gratitude and divine grace resonated strongly with her audience.

Her catalogue also includes “Yehowah”, “Mo Ne Yo”, “My Meditations”, “W’asem”, “Nsenkyerene Nyankopon”, “Pentecostal Praise” and “The Doing of the Lord”. Her collaboration with Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo on “The Doing of the Lord” further connected her music with the wider West African gospel audience.

Awards and Recognition

Hamilton’s career has received recognition from both Ghanaian and international gospel award organisations. Among her early honours was Best Artiste Europe at the Africa Gospel Awards in 2011. She subsequently won Best Female Vocal Performance at the Ghana Gospel Industry Awards and both Best Female Act and Best Gospel Act at the Ghana Music Awards Europe in 2012.

Her international recognition continued with Best Female Artiste at the Africa Gospel Awards in 2014, the Trailblazer Award at the African Gospel Music & Media Awards in London in 2017 and Best Song at the same awards in 2018.

The biggest period of recognition in her career came in 2021. At the Ghana Music Awards, she won both Artiste of the Year and Gospel Artiste of the Year, while “Adom” also received the Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year award. These honours established her as one of the leading artists in Ghanaian gospel music at the time.

In 2022, she continued to receive major recognition, winning Artiste of the Year at the National Gospel Music Awards and Female Artiste of the Year at the Praise Achievers Awards. Her album Grace also won Album of the Year at the Praise Achievers Awards.

Personal Life and Philanthropy

Diana Hamilton is married to Dr. Joseph Hamilton, and they have twins. Her family life has generally remained separate from the main focus of her public career, with her music and Christian ministry occupying much of her public profile.

Outside music, Hamilton has been involved in charitable and social initiatives. Her charitable organisation, the Diana Hamilton Foundation, was officially inaugurated in London in 2017. The foundation focuses on areas including health and education, particularly supporting people and communities in need.

She has also advocated for healthy lifestyles in Ghana and has served as a brand ambassador for organisations including Enterprise Life and Awake Mineral Water. Her activities outside music reflect an approach to public life that combines gospel ministry with community-oriented work.

Hamilton has remained active as a recording artist and worship minister. Her recent catalogue includes the 2024 single “The Doing of the Lord” with Mercy Chinwo, while 2025 brought releases including “Jehovah Overdo”, “Me Nyankopon Papabi (My Good God)”, “The Praise” and “Aha Ye (The Good Place)”, the latter featuring South African gospel singer Ntokozo Mbambo and Ghanaian gospel veteran Elder Mireku.
